IDB Invest trade & supply chain guarantees offer political and credit risk guarantees to support trade and supply chain finance transactions. Underlying transactions are typically import-export loans, payables and receivables programs, guarantees, etc. These transactions can have a green angle. The underlying risk can be a corporate or financial institution in the countries in Latin America and the Caribbean where IDB Invest operates. The guarantee is unfunded and typically covers up to 90% of the principal (or principal plus interest), but we can go up to 100% in certain cases. Guarantees are issued on a transaction basis, and are also available in portfolio structures to help de-risk local banks’ trade portfolios.
